Today is the last day of Big 12 history, and what team would be better to leave off with? Thats right. The Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The football program at Texas Tech began in 1925. The Red Raiders have accumulated an overall winning score with eleven conference titles, and have recently hired Tommy Tuberville as their new head coach.
The first game Texas Tech ever played ended in a controversial tie against McMurry University. A Red Raider, Elson Archibald, had kicked a game-winning 20-yard field goal but the referee ruled that the clock had run out before the score. Later, it was found out that the referee who made the call did so to get revenge because he wanted to be the team's first head coach.
In 1932, Texas Tech joined their first conference which was the Border Intercollegiate Athletic Association. After joining a few more conferences over the decades, the Texas Tech Red Raiders eventually landed on the Big 12 Conference in 1996. Since the conference was created, Texas Tech is the only team to have a winning season each year since.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders football program is described as on the rise, because they have earned 56 wins from the 2000 season through the 2006 season. To date, the Texas Red Raiders football team has accumulated an overall record of 505–391–32 (.561) and continue to impress. Watch out for the Red Raiders this next season, because they are sure to be outstanding.
