Colorado Buffaloes earn their spot

Every season for the Colorado Buffaloes, Head Coach Dan Hawkins starts the team fresh. He doesn't simply give players from previous seasons automatic starts, but makes them prove themselves year after year. You would think that this would be a huge incentive for the individual players and, more importantly the team as a whole to improve. Well last year, Hawkins' career was on the line after the Buffaloes went 3-9 overall in the 2008-09 Colorado Buffaloes season. Dan Hawkins has returned this season just as enthused and is ready to crack down, but is sticking to his "no returning starters" policy. In theory, this is a great incentive for players to step up to the plate even if they may have been lagging in earlier years. Let's just hope the Buffaloes can withstand the stampede this season.

Colorado Buffaloes

I am back today to tell you a little about the Colorado Buffaloes.

The University of Colorado Buffaloes football team have been coached by Dan Hawkins since the 2006 season. Since 1923, the Colorado Buffaloes have played on the Folsom Field and have an all-time record of 658-419-36 (.608 winning percentage). The Colorado Buffaloes football program is ranked 16th on the all-time win list and 22nd in the all-time winning percentage. They are also the all-time NCAA leader in fourth down, as well as fifth down conversions.

Since their establishment in 1890, the Colorado Buffaloes have enjoyed a prosperous history. Colorado have won numerous bowl games, 8 Colorado Football Association Championships, Colorado Faculty Athletic Conference, 7 RFMAC Championships, 4 Mountain States Conference Championships, 5 Big Eight conference championships, 1 Big 12 conference championship, 4 Big 12 North Division Championships, and an Associated Press National Championship.

Let's hope they can continue the amount of success in the next season! I'll be back next week with the Iowa State Cyclones.

Colorado Buffaloes Coach loses it (sorta)

Head Coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, Dan Hawkins was recorded earlier this season, um lets call it complaining, that the parents of his players should not complain about the rigors of Big 12 football programs... in his words, "they should play intramural". While this video is a little old, I think it is worth viewing. In my opinion no coach should talk about his players or his parents this way. You are a role model act like one!

Colorado Buffaloes roster positions still up in the air

The Colorado Buffaloes went into the preseason last week without a firm decision as to who the starting quarterback for this season will be. At the end of the 2008 season and throughout the spring practices, Head Coach Dan Hawkin’s son Cody and Tyler Hansen were duking it out on the field to see who would be listed as starting quarterback on the Colorado Buffaloes roster.

Tyler Hansen sustained an injury to his thumb during the spring game and had surgery shortly after. Many thought that the injury would be the deciding factor. However, the Colorado Buffaloes player battled back and went into the preseason summer practices ready to play. Coach Hawkins said that he has not set a deadline for deciding who will play but would like to start making decisions soon so that his team can practice more effectively for the Colorado Buffaloes season opener against Colorado State on September 6th.

Both players will likely see game time, with one starting most of the games and the other as a relief quarterback so that whomever is named as the starter can stay healthy and strong well into the season. My suggestions are get to as many Colorado Buffaloes games as possible, because one thing is for sure no matter who is named starting quarterback the other player is sure to make a fight for the spot!
