Texas Athletes Nominated for Texas Sports Hall of Fame
There has been a lot of Texas in the news lately and, as a result, Texas has been highlighted in the Big 12 blog. Take notice, Big 12, there may be a thing or two to learn from Texas!
There are five Longhorns nominated for Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Cat Osterman (softball) was a three-time National Player of the Year and four-time All-American during her four season at the University of Texas.
Ricky Williams (football) set 21 NCAA records and 46 UT marks in a career that was topped off by a Heisman Trophy victory in 1998. Williams recently just retired from the NFL.
Keith Moreland (baseball) was a player at Texas from 1973-75. Moreland was a career .388 hitter, as well as a three-time All-American.
Richard Quick (swimming head coach) was the women's swimming head coach from 1982-88. His teams won five straight NCAA titles from 1984-88 and six SWC. Quick coached 17 Olympians, 25 individual NCAA champions, 11 NCAA relay titlists and two swimmers of the year.
Marty Akins (football) led UT to 27 wins during his three seasons at quarterback. Akins totaled 1,974 career rushing yards, 1,188 passing yards and 25 touchdowns.
