Arthur Ray Briles was born in Rule, Texas on December 2, 1955. He grew up there and attended Rule High School, where he played quarterback well enough to earn a scholarship to University of Houston, but he transferred to Texas Tech for his master's degree. He earned his masters of education at Abilene Christian University

He began coaching college football at his alma mater, Texas Tech, in 2000, after more than 20 years of coaching high school football. He finally arrived at Baylor University in 2007. 2008 was a successful season, but in 2009 the quarterback Robert Griffin III was injured in only the third game of the season, leading to a less-than-stellar end to the season. Last year, though, Briles led the team in a record breaking season, winning 10 games and the program being ranked 12th. Most impressively, Griffin won the Heisman Trophy, the first winner in Baylor history.

Can he continue this impressive four year track record next year? We'll just have to wait and see!
