Justin Blackmon Has Explosive Season
The last 2 seasons, the Oklahoma State Cowboys had a wide receiver that the whole nation knew about. His name was Dez Bryant. Now, fast forward to the 2010 season. Another wide receiver took college football by storm. His name is Justin Blackmon. Just how good was he? Well how about this, he never failed to record under 100 yards and had a touchdown in every game. By the way, he happens to play in the Big 12 against some of the nation's best teams. He finished his 2010 season with 1,782 yards and 20 touchdowns (not to mention he missed 1 game). An absolutely terrific season for a great player!

Nebraska vs. Washington HOLIDAY BOWL
On Thursday, December 30, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will square off against the Washington Huskies. It's a bit of an odd placement. Nebraska already beat Washington 56-21 in Seattle earlier this year. It beat Arizona 33-0 in the Holiday Bowl last season. There was the sense that they were a little underappreciated getting into this game. Either way, they will show up and they will play.
Prediction: Nebraska Cornhuskers 42, Washington Huskies 31

Oregon or Auburn?
I know, I know. These aren't Big 12 Teams. But let's be honest, they have played like the two best teams in college football. So my question is, who is going to win the BCS National Championship game? The Auburn Tigers and Cam Newton? Or LaMichael James and the Oregon Ducks? I think it will be a very good game but I have my money on the Auburn Tigers. Here are my 2 reasons:
1) Quarterback play. They have the Heisman Trophy winner in Cam Newton. nuff said
2) The Conference. They play in the SEC - the strongest conference in all of football. They have been battle tested nearly every week.

Texas Coach Gets Florida Gators Job
Will Muschamp has been announced the new Head Coach for the Florida Gators. He replaces Urban Meyer, who unexpectedly announced his resignation for the 2nd straight year. Only this time he did not announce his return the next day. Will Muschamp was the defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns and had already been announced the next coach of the Longhorns after Mack Brown was finished at Texas. Congratulations at Florida for Will Muschamp!

#9 Oklahoma 23, #13 Nebraska 20
By the 2nd quarter, the Nebraska Cornhuskers built a 17-0 lead. However, the Oklahoma Sooners would storm back with a 23-6 run and take home the Big 12 Crown with a 23-20 victory. Landry Jones threw for 342 yard with a touchdown. The Cornhuskers had 4 turnovers and suffered another tough defeat in the Big 12 Championship Game. Next season the Nebraska Cornhuskers are headed to the Big Ten.

Big 12 Title Game: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
For the 2nd straight year, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are back in the Big 12 Title Game. It's fitting considering the Cornhuskers are in their last season in the Big 12. It's also fitting that they are playing their main rival - the Oklahoma Sooners. Don't think the Nebraska Cornhuskers have forgetten their heartbreaking loss to the Texas Longhorns last season by a field goal with 1 second left. Both teams are 10-2 and 6-2 in their respective divisions.
My Prediction: Nebraska Cornhuskers 20, Oklahoma Sooners 17

Big 12 Game of the Week
#1 Oklahoma vs. #11 Missouri
Are the Missouri Tigers contenders or pretenders? We will find out this week. The Missouri Tigers come in 6-0 but have played a very soft non-conference schedule. Their most impressive win was a 30-9 victory last weekend vs. Texas A&M. The Oklahoma Sooners come in 6-0 and have beaten #17 Florida State and #21 Texas. They are the sup rise #1 team atop the BCS standings.
Prediction: I want the Missouri Tigers to win to get some parity but I think the Sooners are too strong. Oklahoma 34, Missouri 20.

A classic rivalry between two football powerhouses. Florida State had the dynasty in the 90's. Oklahoma has always remained competitive and this year should be no different. Mack Brown Supports Vince Young Claiming 2005 Heisman Trophy
If Reggie Bush from USC loses his Heisman Trophy that he won in 2005, then the question would be - who receives it? Or does anyone receive it? Well, Texas Longhorn coach Mack Brown chimed in on the situation today. According to ESPN, Brown believes former quarterback Vince Young should be the winner. He finished runner-up to Bush in the voting and believes if a re-count were held, he would probably be the rightful winner again. Either way, the Heisman Trust has not stripped the trophy from Bush yet, but if it does it could end up in Vince Young's hands. It is an interesting story to follow.

My Darkhorse Prediction of Winner of the Big 12: Nebraska
I guess it isn't much of a darkhorse prediction when the team is ranked #9 in the preseason poll. However, when the team hasn't finished higher than #14 since 2001 especially when they finished in the top 20 an astonishing 33 years in a row from 1969 to 2001 it is a little bit of a leap. Texas and Oklahoma have dominated the Big 12 in the 2000's. I think Nebraska will be the team that finishes on top this season and here's why. The team finished 10-4 last season, their best season since 2003. 9 starters return on offense including quarterback Zach Lee. 6 starters return on defense. I think head coach Tom Osborne has what it takes to lead the Cornhuskers to the Big 12 title.

Five Big 12 Teams in Top 25 Recruiting Rankings
According to the much respected ESPN recruiting rankings for college football, the Big 12 had 5 teams in the Top 25 for the incoming freshman class. Texas was number 1, Oklahoma came in at 3, Nebraska at 15, Oklahoma State at 16, and Texas Tech at 20. Year in and year out the Big 12 gets heralded recruits and this year is no different. With two teams in the top three, that is quite impressive for one conference to get that many prized recruits.

Can't Wait for 2010 Big 12 Season!
In the final year of the Big 12, I can't wait for the upcoming season! With Texas A&M, Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma with lofty expectations it should make for a great season! Furthermore, you never know with Baylor (with QB - Robert Griffin), Colorado in it's final season before joining the Pac-10, Kansas and new head coach Turner Gill, and Texas Tech with new head coach Tommy Tuberville. Really looking forward to how the season will play out!

Should Vince Young Receive the 2005 Heisman Trophy?
USC has already announced they will return their copy of the 2005 Heisman Trophy that Reggie Bush won. Now the Heisman Trust group is investigating whether they will take back the Heisman Trophy from the player himself, Reggie Bush. If they were to strip former USC star Reggie Bush from the award, would former Texas Longhorn star Vince Young be the recipient? The Heisman runner-up had the 2nd most votes that season, the same one that he led his team to the National Championship. It would most definitely cause a debate but it is something to wonder while the Heisman Trust is investigating the matter.

Can Garrett Gilbert become the next Colt McCoy?
Remember when college football fans wondered how some babyfaced quarterback could replace Vince Young's dynasty at the University of Texas? The same question is being asked 4 years later, wondering how another young quarterback expects to replace a Texas legend (yes, Colt McCoy is already a Longhorn legend). The Texas Longhorns seem to have a pipeline with college quarterbacks, when one leaves another steps in and becomes a household name.
Freshman Garrett Gilbert is expected to be the starting quarterback this season for Texas. He was a phenom in high school, setting numerous Texas state records. Many fans remember him from the 2009-2010 BCS Championship Game when he replaced an injured Colt McCoy as a redshirt freshman. He threw 2 touchdown passes but struggled with 4 interceptions against a tough Alabama defense. The expectations will be high for Garrett Gilbert this season and Texas Longhorn football fans will expect another Vince Young and Colt McCoy to develop.

2010 Is a Big Season for Colorado
I know Colorado is just an "interim" member of the Big 12 until they depart to the Pac-10 in 2012-2013. However, this is quite a make or break year for coach Dan Hawkins and the Colorado Buffaloes. Last season the Colorado Buffaloes finished 3-9 and that leaves Dan Hawkins at 16-33 in his 4 seasons at Colorado. To say he is coaching to keep his job may be too obvious to state. Another down year in Boulder and Hawkins may be shown the exit door.
If they want to get top recruits for when they enter the Pac-10 they're gonna need more victories and establish consistency. The Big 12 is tough year in and year out and it doesn't get any easier with their non-conference games. The Colorado Buffaloes non-conference schedule includes Colorado State, California, Hawaii, and Georgia this season.
